Adapt
~American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today Nationally
ADAPT focuses on promoting services in the community instead of warehousing
people with disabilities in institutions and nursing homes. Attendant services
(help with things like eating, dressing, toileting, moving from wheelchair to
bed, etc.) are the cornerstone to community based services for people with
severe disabilities. ADAPT is working to get 25% of the Medicaid long term care
funds redirected to pay for a national, mandated attendant services program
The
Advocacy Institute is an organization dedicated to the development of products
and services that work to improve the lives of people with disabilities,
particularly learning disabilities.
American
Association of People with Disabilities AAPD
is the largest national nonprofit cross-disability member organization in the
United States, dedicated to ensuring economic self-suffici carried ency and
political empowerment for the more than 56 million Americans with disabilities.
AAPD works in coalition with other disability organizations for the full
implementation and enforcement of disability nondiscrimination laws.
Since
our founding in 1988, we have (a) conducted research, (b) out training and
technical assistance, and (c) provided international, national, state, regional,
and local service. We have carried out these three activities in collaboration
with families who have members with disabilities, individuals with disabilities,
the professionals and policy leaders who serve families and individuals, and
members of the communities in which the families and individuals live, all in
order to enhance the quality of life of families with disabilities.
The
Center for Self Determination The
Center for Self-Determination is not a place. It is a highly interactive working
collaborative of individuals and organizations committed to the principles of
self-determination. The purpose of the collaborative is to change the nature of
the support and service system for individuals with disabilities, using the
principles of self-determination to help all persons create the lives they want,
connected to and with their communities.
A
national grassroots network of families and friends, advocates for health care
services that are family-centered, community-based, comprehensive, coordinated
and culturally competent for all children and youth with special health care
needs; promotes the inclusion of all families as decision makers at all levels
of health care; and supports essential partnerships between families and
professionals.
The
Institute's purpose is to promote the opportunities of persons with disabilities
to gain more personal and political power, self-determination, full
participation and equality through information, training materials, consultancy
and technical assistance. The Institute works in cooperation with other
organizations which support these aims at the local, national and international
level, including self-help groups in developing countries.
Institute
for Community Inclusion The
ICI supports the rights of children and adults with disabilities to participate
in all aspects of the community. As practitioners, researchers, and teachers, we
form partnerships with individuals, families, and communities. Together we
advocate for personal choice, self-determination, and social and economic
justice.
KASA
is a national, grassroots network of youth with disabilities and needs (and our
friends), speaking out. We are leaders in our community, and we help spread
helpful, positive information amoung our peers to increase knowledge around
various issues.
Missouri Protection and Advocacy Missouri Protection and Advocacy (MO P&A) is a Federally mandated system in the state of Missouri which provides protection of the rights of persons with disabilities through legally based advocacy. Office locations.
Partners
in Policymaking was created in Minnesota by the Governor’s Council on
Developmental Disabilities in 1987. Partners is an innovative, competency based
leadership training program for adults with disabilities and parents of young
children with developmental disabilities. Since 1987, Partners programs have
been implemented in 46 states, the Northern Mariana Islands, Netherlands, Virgin
Islands and the United Kingdom. More than 13,000 Partners graduates are part of
a growing national and international network or community leaders serving on
policy making committees, commisions, and baords at all levels of government.
People
First is a self-advocacy and self help organization formed by, run by and which
exists for persons with developmental disabilities.
TASH
is an organization of members concerned with human dignity, civil rights,
education, and independence for all individuals with disabilities.
